School District 197 Youth Enrichment Community Education is pleased to partner with Advantage Educational Programs. For the past 26 years, Advantage Educational Programs benefited thousands of students in Minnesota by preparing them for the college entrance exams. They offer ACT Preparatory Courses in more than forty high schools in Minneapolis/St. Paul and the surrounding area. Online ACT Preparatory Course This course is an excellent alternative for any student unable to attend in-school classes or for a student preferring to prepare for the ACT exam on their own, and study at their desired pace. The fee for this course is $80, and you may repeat the course at no charge until you graduate from high school. The online course will allow students to log-in for the course and proceed at their own pace. The course will be using Google Classroom to present the online course and it will be equivalent to the 12 hour classroom time. The course will use instructors' videos, voice-overs, illustrations, and slides that guide you through all of the testing areas of the ACT. You will also be able to communicate with the instructor when you have questions or concerns. Students can make up any class they miss at other available class locations and may also REPEAT any of the ACT prep courses by requesting the Self-Paced ACT Prep Course at no additional charge. Students can attend any missed classes at TRHS when the course if offered again and may repeat the course at no charge. **If you are on free/reduced lunch please contact us for a scholarship. **You will need a gmail account to access the google classroom. Your student's isd197.org account that is managed by google will not work--ISD197 blocks access to google classrooms outside the 197 domain. Once students are enrolled, they are sent an access code for their class via email, as well as directions on how to begin the simple process of starting their class. Students have the flexibility of working on classwork at their own pace around their own specific schedule. Hike over to Dodge Nature Center and put your survival skills to the test! Practice building sturdy shelters and then put them to the test to see if they really help keep you warm! Try your hand at building fires and learn how to keep them going strong. Make friends and explore the woods in this series all about winter survival. Location and time: All classes will start and end at Garlough where students will be checked in and checked out of the class. The Dodge Naturalist will leave from Garlough at 2:15 p.m. to walk students to the Nature Center where classes will be held at the Farm Education Building. At 3:15 p.m. the students will walk back with the Naturalist to Garlough where parents will pick them up by 3:30 p.m in the lobby area or they will join SAC if enrolled in the program. Students should come dressed for the weather, with boots, warm clothes, or raincoats as needed.

Virtual ACT Prep Class This course is an excellent alternative for any student unable to attend an in-person class, but still prefers the interaction with one of the Advantage Educational Programs' instructors. The Virtual ACT Prep Course is the same as the In-Person ACT Prep Course, but from the comfort of your own home. The instructors teach live via virtual classroom and are available to answer questions if needed. The fee for this course is $180 and the only things you need are an internet connection and a computer/tablet/smart phone. Instructions will be sent to you via email a few days before the course begins. Students can make up any class they miss at other available class locations and may also REPEAT any of the ACT prep courses by requesting the Self-Paced ACT Prep Course at no additional charge. In-School ACT Preparatory Course This course consists of four, three-hour classes that meet one day each week at Two Rivers High School. **You do not need to be a Two Rivers HS student to attend, this course is open to any high school student. The course includes diagnostic testing, instruction in time management, overcoming test anxiety, science reasoning, English strategies and review, essay writing, reading comprehension, and math strategies and review. Students enrolled in these classes not only benefit from personal instruction taught by our experienced instructors, but also have free access to our online course. Please have a pencil/pen and notebook with you for class. Start your bonsai journey today! In the Introduction to Bonsai course, you will learn about basic bonsai techniques from how to keep your tree alive to how you'll prune and maintain the art form of your tree through the years. You will learn a little about the history of bonsai, the pots and bonsai soil used, how to water your tree and how much sun it should get. You will also learn about how to wire your tree and the various bonsai styles and resources should you want to pursue this hobby further. All supplies provided. Students will explore engineering concepts while developing essential 21st-century skills like problem-solving, critical thinking, and teamwork—building confidence to tackle challenges in and out of the classroom. Spring Session: Order may vary: Mechanical Engineering Mini Trampoline Spring into action! Students explore elasticity and energy transfer as they build and test a mini trampoline. Civil Engineering Bird's Self-Propelled Boat Make a splash with engineering! Students learn about buoyancy and propulsion, then create a boat that moves on its own. Mechanical Engineering Straw Grabber Grab, lift, and move like a pro! Students investigate simple machines, then build a straw-based grabber to pick up small objects. Electrical Engineering Constellation Projector Light up the night sky! Students learn about circuits and astronomy while creating a projector that displays constellations on the wall or ceiling.
