School District 197 Youth Enrichment Community Education is pleased to partner with Advantage Educational Programs. For the past 26 years, Advantage Educational Programs benefited thousands of students in Minnesota by preparing them for the college entrance exams. They offer ACT Preparatory Courses in more than forty high schools in Minneapolis/St. Paul and the surrounding area. Online ACT Preparatory Course This course is an excellent alternative for any student unable to attend in-school classes or for a student preferring to prepare for the ACT exam on their own, and study at their desired pace. The fee for this course is $80, and you may repeat the course at no charge until you graduate from high school. The online course will allow students to log-in for the course and proceed at their own pace. The course will be using Google Classroom to present the online course and it will be equivalent to the 12 hour classroom time. The course will use instructors' videos, voice-overs, illustrations, and slides that guide you through all of the testing areas of the ACT. You will also be able to communicate with the instructor when you have questions or concerns. Students can make up any class they miss at other available class locations and may also REPEAT any of the ACT prep courses by requesting the Self-Paced ACT Prep Course at no additional charge. Students can attend any missed classes at TRHS when the course if offered again and may repeat the course at no charge. **If you are on free/reduced lunch please contact us for a scholarship. **You will need a gmail account to access the google classroom. Your student's isd197.org account that is managed by google will not work--ISD197 blocks access to google classrooms outside the 197 domain. Once students are enrolled, they are sent an access code for their class via email, as well as directions on how to begin the simple process of starting their class. Students have the flexibility of working on classwork at their own pace around their own specific schedule. Students will learn basic chords and strumming patterns to play songs on the ukulele. No need to own a ukulele; instruments will be provided for the lessons. Students will enjoy learning to play simple beginner songs. Taught by Pilot Knob 2nd Grade Teacher, Mr. Oppenheim

Each week, we will have snacks, read and discuss fun Holiday books, and do a craft. Holiday Themes will include: Halloween and Dia de los Muertos Taught by Somerset Media Center and Art Teacher Mrs. Espinoza

This class is for students in grades 5-8 who play a string instrument and want to play a range of musical styles including fiddle music, pop and show tunes, and oldies. Violin, viola, cello, bass and guitar players are all welcome, whether or not they are in orchestra class. 5th graders welcome with a year of previous playing experience. Open to students in grades 6-8--**5th graders welcome with 1 year of playing experience. Shine up your instruments and join the Jazz Band! This class is open to all students who are interested in playing in a Jazz group. *5th graders welcome with one or more years playing an instrument. Ms. Bannie is offering an after-school Rubik’s Cube class for students who are already familiar with the cube and are eager to improve their speed and skills. The class will meet weekly to prepare for a competition on December 27th or January 31st, with a goal of solving the cube in under 10 minutes. All grade levels are welcome—this is a great opportunity for motivated cubers ready to take the next step! Just bring yourself and an after-school snack - the cubes will be provided! Virtual ACT Prep Class This course is an excellent alternative for any student unable to attend an in-person class, but still prefers the interaction with one of the Advantage Educational Programs' instructors. The Virtual ACT Prep Course is the same as the In-Person ACT Prep Course, but from the comfort of your own home. The instructors teach live via virtual classroom and are available to answer questions if needed. The fee for this course is $180 and the only things you need are an internet connection and a computer/tablet/smart phone. Instructions will be sent to you via email a few days before the course begins. Students can make up any class they miss at other available class locations and may also REPEAT any of the ACT prep courses by requesting the Self-Paced ACT Prep Course at no additional charge. Come and learn the basics of crocheting. We will start with learning how to make a loop, move on to a chain and from then on, we will learn how to do a single crochet. School District 197 Youth Enrichment is now partnering with Safeway Driving School to offer our Driver's Education classes. This is a virtual class offered via Zoom from 4pm-7pm. Please make sure your email is correct and is the email you want the link sent to for the class. Links will be sent out prior to class starting. Safeway has been graduating safe teen drivers in the Twin Cities for over 50 years. Safeway’s only focus is creating safe, responsible teen drivers. Classroom and behind-the-wheel lessons emphasize defensive driving techniques tailored for the inexperienced teen driver while targeting to influence the invincible teen attitude. All of Safeway’s instructors are licensed by the Minnesota Dept. of Public Safety. Parent involvement is required to produce safe, responsible teen drivers. It is critical that parents practice regularly with their student drivers. The state requires that students have a minimum of 50 hours of practice (15 hours at night). The practice time must be recorded on a state-approved Supervised Driving Log and presented at the road test. Parent Classes are offered monthly in person or by distance learning (via Zoom). This class is not required but qualifies the parent to receive a certificate that allows their student reduced practice time (from 50 to 40 hours). Parents can sign up for a Parent Class on Safeway’s website. At a minimum, Safeway strongly encourages parents to review its parent information and watch the online Parent Class Videos at www.safewaydrivingschool.com. Cost of the teen package is $420 and includes the classroom, behind-the-wheel lessons and all materials. There are no hidden charges or additional fuel surcharges. Pay in full upon registration $420 or choose the payment plan: $250 at registration and $170 due the Friday before class starts. Students must be at least 14.5 years old to join the class.
