School District 197 Youth Enrichment Community Education is pleased to partner with Advantage Educational Programs. For the past 26 years, Advantage Educational Programs benefited thousands of students in Minnesota by preparing them for the college entrance exams. They offer ACT Preparatory Courses in more than forty high schools in Minneapolis/St. Paul and the surrounding area. Online ACT Preparatory Course This course is an excellent alternative for any student unable to attend in-school classes or for a student preferring to prepare for the ACT exam on their own, and study at their desired pace. The fee for this course is $80, and you may repeat the course at no charge until you graduate from high school. The online course will allow students to log-in for the course and proceed at their own pace. The course will be using Google Classroom to present the online course and it will be equivalent to the 12 hour classroom time. The course will use instructors' videos, voice-overs, illustrations, and slides that guide you through all of the testing areas of the ACT. You will also be able to communicate with the instructor when you have questions or concerns. **If you are on free/reduced lunch please contact us for a scholarship. **You will need a gmail account to access the google classroom. Your student's isd197.org account that is managed by google will not work--ISD197 blocks access to google classrooms outside the 197 domain. Once students are enrolled, they are sent an access code for their class via email, as well as directions on how to begin the simple process of starting their class. Students have the flexibility of working on classwork at their own pace around their own specific schedule. Each week students will read a Roald Dahl book at home or during IDR at school. At book club, we will discuss the book, play a game related to the book, and have a sweet treat from the book. Come prepared and read Matilda for our first session. We will play Mrs. Wormwood's favorite game, bingo, and enjoy Bruce Bogtrotter's chocolate cake! ROCC--Residents of Color Collective is offering their program ROCC Climbers for BIPOC youth after-school at Friendly Hills. **There is no charge to register but please sign up so ROCC is able to plan for activities. The ROCC Climbers program is a transformative leadership initiative designed specifically for BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) youth. The program aims to nurture young leaders by providing them with the skills, knowledge, and experiences necessary to thrive and make a positive impact in their communities. 2. Age Group Target Grade Range: 5th grade - 8th grade 3. Program Components Leadership Development Workshops and Seminars: Focus on leadership skills, public speaking, and community organizing. Mentorship: Pairing youth with community leaders and professionals for guidance and support. Cultural Education Swahili Lessons: Basic language lessons to connect youth with African heritage and foster cultural pride. Cultural Exchange: Activities that promote understanding and appreciation of diverse cultures. Creative Expression Writing Workshops: Encouraging self-expression through writing, helping youth develop their unique voices and narratives. Art Projects: Opportunities for youth to explore various forms of art and creativity. Financial Literacy Budgeting and Saving: Practical lessons on money management, including budgeting, saving, and making informed financial decisions. Entrepreneurship: Introduction to basic business concepts and entrepreneurial thinking. Youth will be able to participate in out of school programs: Nature-Based Activities - Outdoor Adventures: Nature hikes, camping trips, and environmental education to foster a love for nature. Health and Wellness Physical Activities: Sports, yoga, and other physical activities to promote fitness and well-being. Mental Health Resources: Access to mental health support and wellness programs. Community Engagement Service Projects: Opportunities for youth to engage in community service and give back to their communities.

Archery with Dodge Nature Center Whether you are new to archery or just looking to practice your marksmanship, this is the program for you! Learn the basics of using a compound bow and practice your aim using a variety of targets. Put your skills to the test on the last day in a fair and friendly competition! Kids will be able to take the activity bus from Friendly Hills or Heritage to Dodge Nature Center, kids will be dropped off at the Marie Entrance and met by Dodge staff. You can also drop your student off at Dodge if you prefer at the Marie Entrance. **Kids will have to be picked up at Dodge Nature Center Marie Entrance, by 5pm by a parent or guardian--the activity bus is not provided to get home. If a student is picked up later than 5pm a charge will be applied by Dodge Nature Center for a late pick-up. Grades 5-8 welcome. Come and learn the basics of crocheting. We will start with learning how to make a loop, move on to a chain and from then on, we will learn how to do a single crochet. This is what we need to know in order to make a scarf, pencil pouch or a small purse. All supplies provided! Please note: No Class on October 15 due to school conferences. Descendants: The Rise of Red Musical Theater Class Calling all dancers and singers! Come learn songs and dances for the new Descendants and put on a musical! Work as a team and build confidence as you put on a show from start to finish. Learn how to properly speak your lines, block a scene, develop your character and play theater games! All that is needed are comfortable clothing, shoes and a water bottle. Friends and family are invited to a special performance the last 30 mins of the final class. Classes are taught by professional theater artists. *Please note this class is 90 mins.
