School District 197 Youth Enrichment Community Education is pleased to partner with Advantage Educational Programs. For the past 26 years, Advantage Educational Programs benefited thousands of students in Minnesota by preparing them for the college entrance exams. They offer ACT Preparatory Courses in more than forty high schools in Minneapolis/St. Paul and the surrounding area. Online ACT Preparatory Course This course is an excellent alternative for any student unable to attend in-school classes or for a student preferring to prepare for the ACT exam on their own, and study at their desired pace. The fee for this course is $80, and you may repeat the course at no charge until you graduate from high school. The online course will allow students to log-in for the course and proceed at their own pace. The course will be using Google Classroom to present the online course and it will be equivalent to the 12 hour classroom time. The course will use instructors' videos, voice-overs, illustrations, and slides that guide you through all of the testing areas of the ACT. You will also be able to communicate with the instructor when you have questions or concerns. Students can make up any class they miss at other available class locations and may also REPEAT any of the ACT prep courses by requesting the Self-Paced ACT Prep Course at no additional charge. Students can attend any missed classes at TRHS when the course if offered again and may repeat the course at no charge. **If you are on free/reduced lunch please contact us for a scholarship. **You will need a gmail account to access the google classroom. Your student's isd197.org account that is managed by google will not work--ISD197 blocks access to google classrooms outside the 197 domain. Once students are enrolled, they are sent an access code for their class via email, as well as directions on how to begin the simple process of starting their class. Students have the flexibility of working on classwork at their own pace around their own specific schedule. DASH Sports basketball camps provide players with a well-rounded basketball experience covering a broad range of skills training & skill-based games. Players will be taught how to properly shoot, pass, dribble & play defense in a fun & positive environment. Camps end with scrimmages/games on the final day. Athletes should bring a water bottle. Balls are provided. Taught by DASH Sports Instructors

Brain Boosters is a fun way to flex your brain muscles, by solving puzzles, riddles & logic challenges. This class is an engaging way to improve skills like memory, problem solving and quick thinking, while having a great time. Kids will also be introduced to a healthy lifestyle for brain support, such as a balanced diet, good sleep routine, physical activity and conversations to build social skills. It's a "brain-bending" experience!

ROCC--Residents of Color Collective is offering their program ROCC Climbers for All Youth at Heritage. ROCC Climbers — Overview ROCC Climbers is an after-school and out-of-school leadership program for youth of color grades 5th-8th. The program’s mission is to empower youth to “climb higher, lead boldly, and build a future they believe in” through mentorship, community, and hands-on leadership. Participation includes roughly 10-15 youths weekly, giving consistent community and support. Learning, Leadership & STEAM-style Engagement ROCC Climbers is a youth leadership and enrichment program designed to empower youth of color through community, hands-on learning, and real-world experiences. Participants engage in outdoor adventures, leadership development, and STEAM-style activities that blend Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math. Impact & Values The program aims to build confidence, cultivate a sense of belonging, and offer meaningful opportunities for youth of color to connect with their community and environment. One of the key successes is seeing young people not only enjoy nature and adventure but also grow as leaders and caretakers of their land and communities. Age Group Target Grades: 5-8

Calling all future engineers! It’s time to develop your critical thinking, problem solving and collaboration skills through engineering disciplines. Jump into an exciting new school year with all-new lessons! Whether you're a new or returning student, the Engineering For Kids Jr. Engineering/STEM Club offers hands-on, engaging activities each week to spark curiosity and creativity. Students will explore engineering concepts while developing essential 21st-century skills like problem-solving, critical thinking, and teamwork—building confidence to tackle challenges in and out of the classroom. Winter Session: Order may vary: Aerospace Engineering Blast off into aerospace engineering! Students explore the principles of flight and build a paper cup rocket to launch high into the air. Environmental Engineering Pinwheel Harness the power of wind! Students learn how moving air can create energy, then design and build a colorful pinwheel using the Engineering Design Process. Mechanical Engineering Sled Speed into transportation engineering! Students design and test a miniature sled, exploring friction, speed, and stability. Civil Engineering Bird's Nest Think like nature’s engineers! Students study how birds build nests, then design and construct a nest sturdy enough to protect a real or model egg.

ASL 1: Have fun learning American Sign Language! We will start with the alphabet, basic signs, animals, winter signs, and food. Taught by: Suzanne Downs--Parent of a daughter who is deaf and a retired Deaf/Hard of Hearing school teacher. She has taught ASL at the high school, middle school, and community education level. Her belief is that the more people who know sign language, the better! ASL 1: ¡Diviértete aprendiendo lenguaje de señas americano! We'll start with the basics of visual block-based programming, then progress to more advanced projects. Students will develop their creativity and problem-solving skills in a fun, collaborative, and low-pressure environment.
