Understanding your Homeowners Insurance Policy
Purchasing a Homeowner’s insurance policy to protect your home in case of unexpected events typically goes hand in hand with the purchase of a home. What doesn’t always accompany these purchases is an understanding of how your homeowner’s insurance works including what is or isn’t covered, what affects the price of your policy and what will happen if you have an unexpected event leading to a claim. In this workshop, you’ll learn the basics of insurance coverage and leave with some sample policy language (regardless of your carrier), as well as a list of questions to take back to your agent so that you can make more informed decisions that align with your priorities for your home, budget and lifestyle.

Care and Feeding of Your Home Exterior
Owning your own home can be a lot to bite off for many people, and while this hour long workshop certainly only touches the tip of the iceberg, we hope to outline some of the most common areas of wear and tear to the exterior of your home that can prevent (or minimize) larger damage issues that are either excluded or not covered by homeowners insurance. We also will discuss some of the areas (with photos) where we see homeowners think that there has been weather/storm related damage but the damage is actually the result of other issues (maintenance, improper installation, product warranty).

Understanding the Homeowners Insurance Claims Process
While many people can go through the entire time of owning a home without filing an insurance claim, it is more often the case that you will need to decide whether to file an insurance claim at some point in your ownership journey. In this workshop we will briefly touch on when and why to file a claim - particularly as it relates to weather and storm damage. Then we will work through a flow chart of the claims process from beginning to end. You will leave with a handout about the process as well as sample language and terms of insurance claim paperwork so if you are ever dealing with this you have tools to empower you as the homeowner to make the best decision for your home and budget.
