The Dakota County Sheriff's Office has operated an Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) commonly called a Drone Unit since 2015 to support the Sheriff's Office and other law enforcement agencies by providing a safe and efficient ariel observation perspective on law enforcement and other public safety incidents. This Drone Unit has been called upon to assist in the search of missing persons from 4 to 80 years old; have assisted in serious crash and crime scenes documenting evidence; assisted keeping officers, fire fighters and the public safe at large fire scenes, active public safety incidents, and locating fleeing subjects from crime scenes. The DCSO Drone team will present some example use cases, answer questions and provide a short demonstration of their capabilities.
