ROCC--Residents of Color Collective is offering their program ROCC Climbers for BIPOC youth after-school at Friendly Hills. 

**There is no charge to register but please sign up so ROCC is able to plan for activities. 

The ROCC Climbers program is a transformative leadership initiative designed specifically for BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) youth. The program aims to nurture young leaders by providing them with the skills, knowledge, and experiences necessary to thrive and make a positive impact in their communities.

2. Age Group

  • Target Grade Range: 5th grade - 8th grade

3. Program Components

  1. Leadership Development
    • Workshops and Seminars: Focus on leadership skills, public speaking, and community organizing.
    • Mentorship: Pairing youth with community leaders and professionals for guidance and support.
  2. Cultural Education
    • Swahili Lessons: Basic language lessons to connect youth with African heritage and foster cultural pride.
    • Cultural Exchange: Activities that promote understanding and appreciation of diverse cultures.
  3. Creative Expression
    • Writing Workshops: Encouraging self-expression through writing, helping youth develop their unique voices and narratives.
    • Art Projects: Opportunities for youth to explore various forms of art and creativity.
  4. Financial Literacy
    • Budgeting and Saving: Practical lessons on money management, including budgeting, saving, and making informed financial decisions.
    • Entrepreneurship: Introduction to basic business concepts and entrepreneurial thinking.
Youth will be able to participate in out of school programs:
  1. Nature-Based Activities -
    • Outdoor Adventures: Nature hikes, camping trips, and environmental education to foster a love for nature.
  2. Health and Wellness
    • Physical Activities: Sports, yoga, and other physical activities to promote fitness and well-being.
    • Mental Health Resources: Access to mental health support and wellness programs.
  3. Community Engagement
    • Service Projects: Opportunities for youth to engage in community service and give back to their communities.
