    ISD 199 Driver's Education

    Our Drivers Education program is taught by certified instructors. The course is approved by the State of Minnesota and meets all requirements for training anyone under the age of 18. The course includes 30 hours of classroom instruction and six hours of behind the wheel instruction. The course features lecture, class discussion, guest speakers, video, written work from textbooks and written tests. Behind the wheel training allows a student to practice driving on public streets and highways. **Please note: the in-person class at Simley starting Sept 9 has been cancelled due to low enrollment.     ISD 199 Driver's Education - Online

For the virtual classroom series, you must attend by logging in to the live broadcast at class time each day on a device that has the ability to be seen as well as heard for the entire class time. Please provide participant's email address during the registration process to send the meeting invite. This email needs to be accessible from the device being used. The course is approved by the State of Minnesota and meets all requirements for training anyone under the age of 18. The course includes 30 hours of classroom instruction and six hours of behind the wheel instruction.     ISD 197 Safeway Driver's Education In-Person at TRHS Winter/Spring Classes (Jan-May)

    New!! School District 197 Youth Enrichment is now partnering with Safeway Driving School to offer our Driver's Education classes. Safeway has been graduating safe teen drivers in the Twin Cities for over 50 years. Safeway’s only focus is creating safe, responsible teen drivers. Classroom and behind-the-wheel lessons emphasize defensive driving techniques tailored for the inexperienced teen driver while targeting to influence the invincible teen attitude. All of Safeway’s instructors are licensed by the Minnesota Dept. of Public Safety. Parent involvement is required to produce safe, responsible teen drivers. It is critical that parents practice regularly with their student drivers. The state requires that students have a minimum of 50 hours of practice (15 hours at night). The practice time must be recorded on a state-approved Supervised Driving Log and presented at the road test. Parent Classes are offered monthly in person or by distance learning (via Zoom). This class is not required but qualifies the parent to receive a certificate that allows their student reduced practice time (from 50 to 40 hours). Parents can sign up for a Parent Class on Safeway’s website. At a minimum, Safeway strongly encourages parents to review its parent information and watch the online Parent Class Videos at www.safewaydrivingschool.com. Cost of the teen package is $420 and includes the classroom, behind-the-wheel lessons and all materials. There are no hidden charges or additional fuel surcharges. Pay in full upon registration $420 or choose the payment plan: $250 at registration and $170 due the Friday before class starts. Students must be at least 14.5 years old to join the class.     Tips and Tricks for Traveling with Kids Kids grow up too fast. Do you want to travel with your kids but are nervous on how it will go? While traveling with kids is different from an adults only trip, the memories that you will create are priceless. We have been traveling with our kids since they were 3 months old (our oldest are now in middle school) and we want to share our tips with you. Whether you are flying, driving, or cruising to see major cities, National Parks, or Theme Parks there are little things that can make a big difference.
