  • Heritage: ROCC Climbers Leadership Program (Grades: 5-8)

    ROCC--Residents of Color Collective is offering their program ROCC Climbers for BIPOC Youth at Heritage. **There is no charge to register but please sign up so ROCC is able to plan for activities. The ROCC Climbers program is a transformative leadership initiative designed specifically for BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) youth. The program aims to nurture young leaders by providing them with the skills, knowledge, and experiences necessary to thrive and make a positive impact in their communities. Age Group Target Grades: 5-8 Program Components Leadership Development Workshops and Seminars: Focus on leadership skills, public speaking, and community organizing. Mentorship: Pairing youth with community leaders and professionals for guidance and support. Cultural Education Swahili Lessons: Basic language lessons to connect youth with African heritage and foster cultural pride. Cultural Exchange: Activities that promote understanding and appreciation of diverse cultures. Creative Expression Writing Workshops: Encouraging self-expression through writing, helping youth develop their unique voices and narratives. Art Projects: Opportunities for youth to explore various forms of art and creativity. Financial Literacy Budgeting and Saving: Practical lessons on money management, including budgeting, saving, and making informed financial decisions. Entrepreneurship: Introduction to basic business concepts and entrepreneurial thinking. Youth will be able to participate in out of school programs: Nature-Based Activities - Outdoor Adventures: Nature hikes, camping trips, and environmental education to foster a love for nature. Health and Wellness Physical Activities: Sports, yoga, and other physical activities to promote fitness and well-being. Mental Health Resources: Access to mental health support and wellness programs.   • Heritage: Girls Flag Football League (Grades: 5-8)

    Join School District 197 Youth Enrichment as we partner with the MN Vikings to offer a Middle School Girls Flag Football League! The primary objective of this program is to have fun!! The program has been designed to give girls an opportunity to learn the basics of football and develop an appreciation for the game of football. It is a great way to learn the skills of teamwork, sportsmanship, hand-eye coordination and communication. Flag Football is a NON-CONTACT sport. Flags are worn on a belt around the waist and pulled off for the “tackle”. Flags/belts, jerseys and shorts are provided. Mouthguards are required. Tennis shoes are required, cleats recommended. No experience is necessary and everyone will play. Coached by Ms. Cassidy Lettow, Grade 7, Heritage Teacher Kids can take the activity bus home at 5:15pm or have a parent pick-up at the school at 5pm. Check activity bus routes HERE We hope to have enough players at both schools middle schools to scrimmage against each other and watch for information on possible games against other middle schools as Minnesota works to grow the Girl's Flag program.
  • STEM Swords with Dodge Nature Center (Grades: 5-8)

    STEM Swords After-School with Dodge Nature Center Battle with foam swords after school. Learn the basics of sword fighting and how sword technology has changed through time. Engineer your very own foam sword or swords and use them to battle with honor. History, engineering, and fun with STEM Swords After School. Week 1 (April 22) Rules of Combat Sword fighting basics with practice Sword technology through time. Explore different sword systems. Week 2 (April 29) Rules of Combat Sword engineering and construction Sword combat 1v1 Week 3 (May 6) Rules of Combat Advanced sword technique Sword combat 1v1, group battles Taught by Dodge Nature Center Naturalist Kids can take the activity bus from Heritage or FHMS to Dodge Nature Center. Parents must pick up at Dodge Marie Ave entrance at 5pm. There is no transportation home.
