  • 197: In Person ACT Prep Course

    In-School ACT Preparatory Course This course consists of four, three-hour classes that meet one day each week at Henry Sibley High School. The course includes diagnostic testing, instruction in time management, overcoming test anxiety, science reasoning, English strategies and review, essay writing, reading comprehension, and math strategies and review. Students enrolled in these classes not only benefit from personal instruction taught by our experienced instructors, but also have free access to our online course. Students who complete a course may repeat the course as often as they wish, free of charge using the online version. The fee for this course is $150, with all class materials included. This class will be limited to 15 kids, we will create a waiting list for students to be added if others cancel. There is an online version available as well.   • 197: Online ACT Prep Course

    Online ACT Preparatory Course This course is an excellent alternative for any student unable to attend in-school classes or for a student preferring to prepare for the ACT exam on their own, and study at their desired pace. The fee for this course is $60, and you may repeat the course at no charge until you graduate from high school. The online ACT prep class will be available starting 7/22/2020. You can register anytime during the fall with online access ending on December 31, 2020. You will be able to re-register free of charge after January 1, 2021 if you still need access to materials. The online course will allow students to log-in for the course and proceed at their own pace. The course will be using Google Classroom to present the online course and it will be equivalent to the 12 hour classroom time. The course will use instructors' videos, voice-overs, illustrations, and slides that guide you through all of the testing areas of the ACT. You will also be able to communicate with the instructor when you have questions or concerns. NOTE: **You will need a gmail account to access the google classroom. Your student's isd197.org account that is managed by google will not work--ISD197 blocks access to google classrooms outside the 197 domain. Once students are enrolled, they are sent an access code for their class via email, as well as directions on how to begin the simple process of starting their class.     This class provides an introduction to the ACT format, strategies for answering questions and instruction for the specific subject areas tested. This CPR class is very easy to learn and to remember!! You will learn how to care for an unresponsive person and will be certified for 2 years in Basic Adult/Child & Infant CPR and AED.     This course will give you hands-on experience developing your own game using Scratch 3, a visual coding platform. Students will learn how to think like programmers and learn coding concepts while creating a 2-dimensional, arcade-style Super Mario Bros.-themed game. The first part of the class will be instructor-led; with the time remaining, students will have the opportunity to customize their games using Scratch (free web app). Students will receive additional challenges and activities to continue coding after class.

    Work as a team to create a custom theme park in Minecraft. Use command blocks and Redstone to create this world! Possible projects include roller coasters, water rides, trampoline park, obstacle course, a boat race, bumper boats, a dunk tank, and many more rides and attractions!     One Day Class! Certified Babysitter’s Training (ages 11 & up) This course is designed to provide youth who are planning to babysit with the knowledge and skills necessary to safely and responsibly give care for children and infants. Youth will learn skills in four core areas: leadership and professionalism, safety, basic care for infants and children and first aid.     Online: Young Rembrandts Web Lessons Young Rembrandts is traditionally an in-person held class at schools and community centers. In response to the Coronavirus pandemic, we have modified our instruction for online learning through video. Each week, we will send a link via email with access to the video class.
