  • American History and Fiction as Seen Through Percival Everett's James

Join historian Peter Rachleff to read and discuss the 2024 National Book Award-winning novel, James. Everett invites us (or challenges us?) to consider American history and American fiction from a point of view unfamiliar to most of us. Many of us grew up reading Huckleberry Finn and can now consider how it might have shaped our views of American history - and to discuss how James offers new insights.
