  • Intro to Artistic Swimming

    Artistic swimming (formally known as synchronized swimming) is a hybrid form of swimming, gymnastics, and dance. Students in this class will learn fundamental skills and dynamic underwater movements (formerly known as figures). Prerequisite: Students need to be able to complete one length of freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and sidestroke to participate. Instructor: Michele Nelson

  • 100 Mile Swim Challenge 2024

    Record your swim miles to earn a bragging rights t-shirt for 2024! Distance Key: 1 Length = one end of the pool to the other (25 yards) 1 Lap = 2 lengths or down & back (50 yards) 1 Mile = 35 laps (1760 yards) GOAL = 100 miles (176,000 yards or 3,520 laps) Yards swam divided by 1,760 (1 mile = 1,760 yards) Swim aids such as snorkels, fins, paddles, pull buoys and kickboards are acceptable to use. 2 miles per week = 100 miles in 50 weeks 3 miles per week = 100 miles in about 33 weeks 1 mile per day, 5 days a week = 100 miles in 20 weeks
  • Open Swim at Central Square!

    Come and swim with your family at Central Square for Open Swim! All ages welcome when accompanied by a parent/adult guardian. Lifeguard is on duty. $5/swimmer or $15/family (*Only swimmers pay the entry fee) Children 6 and under must have an adult in the water with them. Diving board is open for any swimmer who passes the deep water swim test.

    District 197 Aquatic Center is hosting adult lap swim. Lap swim is open for anyone ages 18+ who can swim 50 yards continuously. This is a swim at your own pace, non instructional opportunity. Registration is required and space is limited. We provide a lifeguard for adult lap swim if we are short on staffing or lifeguard is out sick, we will cancel and prorate you for the missed day--please make sure your email is up to date and select 'can receive' SMS messaging in your account, this is a quick and easy way for us to notify you if the pool closes due to weather or mechanical issues. Requests for cancellations/refunds must be received by our office 7 days prior to the first class session. A $10 service charge will be applied to your refund.     If you haven’t dipped your toes in the new District 197 Aquatic Center, summer is a great time to visit. Enjoy the quiet, weather-proof, uncrowded lanes of our lap swim and let the kids take over the outdoor pools for the summer! Adult lap swim is open for anyone ages 18+ who can swim 50 yards continuously. This is a non-instructional, swim at your own pace opportunity. Registration is required as space is limited. Requests for cancellations/refunds must be received by our office 7 days prior to the first class session. A $10 service charge will be applied to your refund.     Level 4 - Stroke Improvement Participants, ages 5 and up, improve swimming skills, increase endurance and learn back crawl, breaststroke, butterfly and sidestroke. Skills include: Standing dive Feet-first surface dive and swim underwater Survival swim, 1 min. Tread water, 2 min. Front crawl and elementary backstroke, 25 yd. each Back crawl, breaststroke, butterfly and sidestroke, 15 yd. each Exit Skills: Jump into deep water, swim front crawl 25 yd. and elementary backstroke 25 yd. Swim breaststroke 15 yd. and back crawl 15 yd. Swim under water 5 yd. Prerequisite: Children must have completed Learn-to-Swim Lessons: Level 3 or have equivalent skills.     Water Safety Aide (June 10-13) (Ages: 13+)

    A class for those interested in assisting swim instructors emphasizing lesson levels and proper teaching techniques. A great class for students ages 13 and up who love water, enjoy working with children, and are considering seeking future employment as a Water Safety Instructor or Lifeguard (WSI/LG). There will be an opportunity after completion of this session to volunteer and get hands-on experience during our summer swim lessons. Students who complete this course can continue to volunteer in our aquatics program to build their skills and resume for future job opportunities in the aquatics field.     Private Swim Lessons for Spring will take place Wednesdays May 15-June 5. Registration will open Monday March 4th at 8am. Group and Private Summer Swim Lessons will open for registration on April 12th at 8am. Register now for our Junior Water Safety Aide and Intro to Artistic Swimming!

Registration tip: Upon completion of required skills, children ages 3 to 5 should register for Preschool 2. Children ages 5 and up should register for Learn-to-Swim Lessons: Level 1. It is designed to improve range of motion, flexibility, and strength of muscles, and cardiovascular endurance. Exercises performed in the deep water utilize a waist flotation belt to suspend the participant, allowing optimal joint movement and preventing joint impact. You will need an aqua fitness flotation belt. These are available online and at sporting goods stores. **Drop-ins are not allowed, we do not have cash/change on site.     Parent Tot (Ages 6-36 months with parent/guardian) Learn to enjoy the water safely with your child for ages 6 to 36 months accompanied by a parent or guardian in the water. Registration tip: Children, at the age of 3, may register for Preschool 1 to be in a class without a parent or Preschool 1 with parent if the parent or guardian would like to accompany the child in the class. Preschool 1 with Parent Preschoolers in the Parent Child class learn skills with the comfort of a parent or guardian in the water.
