  • 2025 Swim Challenge

    Swim for 45 minutes for 15 days each month = 165 days If you miss a day, stack your time and swim for 90 minutes. Any swimming, walking, jogging, movement, etc counts! Complete the challenge to be entered in a drawing for a $50 gift card. Bonus entry for those that track 220 days. Track your attendance on a monthly card stored at the desk.
  • Open Swim at Central Square!

    Open Swim at Central Square! All ages welcome when supervised on deck by a parent/adult guardian. Teens are encouraged to attend in a group of four with one parent/guardian per group. $5/swimmer or $16/group of 4 with adult. Children 6 and under must have an adult in the water. Diving board is open for any swimmer who passes the deep water swim test or have passed Level 2 lessons at Central Square. Please register online or pay at front desk.
  • Youth Group Swim Lessons (Ages: 5+)

    Please add your name to the waiting list if classes are full. We are working hard to hire more staff for summer swim lessons and we will add extra classes if possible. If you are on the waitlist for a class and another class at that level and time is added you will get first priority. Your credit card is not charged when you are on the waitlist.
  • Winter 197 Lap Swim-Evening (Ages: 15+)

    District 197 Aquatic Center is hosting adult lap swim. Lap swim is open for anyone ages 15+ who can swim 50 yards continuously. This is a swim at your own pace, non instructional opportunity. Registration is required and space is limited. **There will be 4 lanes available for lap swim this session, you are required to share a lane if all lanes are full. A swim team will be using the other 4 lanes. We provide a lifeguard for adult lap swim if we are short on staffing or lifeguard is out sick, we will cancel and prorate you for the missed day--please make sure your email is up to date and select 'can receive' SMS messaging in your account, this is a quick and easy way for us to notify you if the pool closes due to weather or mechanical issues. Requests for cancellations/refunds must be received by our office 7 days prior to the first class session. A $10 service charge will be applied to your refund. No refunds are issued after the first session or the registration deadline.

    Preschool 1 (Ages 3 to 5) Preschoolers learn to enjoy water safety and perform basic skills. Skills performed with flotation include: Enter and exit the water safely Submerge and explore underwater Glide and recover on front and back Float on back Roll over front to back, back to front Swim on front and back, 5 yd. Registration tip: Upon completion of required skills, children ages 3 to 5 should register for Preschool 2. Children ages 5 and up should register for Learn-to-Swim Lessons: Level 1. Preschool 2 (Ages 3 to 5) Preschoolers experience success with fundamental skills. Skills performed with assistance include: Jump into shoulder-deep water Submerge and explore underwater Float and glide on front and back Roll over front to back, back to front Tread water, 15 sec. Swim on front and back, 5 yd. Prerequisite: Children must have completed Preschool 1 or have equivalent skills. Registration tip: Upon completion of required skills, children ages 3 to 5 should register for Preschool 3. Children, ages 5 and up should register for Learn-to-Swim Lessons: Level 2. Preschool 3 (Ages 3-5) Preschoolers build on the skills learned in Preschool 2. Skills include: Jump into shoulder-deep water Holding hold breath under water, bobbing and rotary breathing Float and glide on front and back Tread water, 30 sec. Change direction while swimming Swim on front and back, 15 yd. Challenge skills: front crawl and elementary backstroke Prerequisite: Children must have completed Preschool 2 or have equivalent skills. Registration tip: Children, ages 5 and up that complete Preschool 3, should register for Learn-to-Swim Lessons: Level 2.
  • SSP Swim Club at Central Square (Ages 8-15)

    Swim Club at Central Square is just the place to build your swimming muscles, refine your stroke and enjoy the water. Workouts will include water safety skills, building fitness as a swimmer and fundamentals of diving. Skill requirement: Must be able to swim 25 yards front crawl and 25 yards backstroke independently with rudimentary stroke. Come prepared with a one-piece swimsuit, goggles, water bottle, and towel.   • SSP Swim Lessons: Level 4 (Ages 5 & Older)

    Level 4 - Stroke Improvement Participants, ages 5 and up, improve swimming skills, increase endurance and learn back crawl, breaststroke, butterfly and sidestroke. Skills include: Standing dive Feet-first surface dive and swim underwater Survival swim, 1 min. Tread water, 2 min. Front crawl and elementary backstroke, 25 yd. each Back crawl, breaststroke, butterfly and sidestroke, 15 yd. each Exit Skills: Jump into deep water, swim front crawl 25 yd. and elementary backstroke 25 yd. Swim breaststroke 15 yd. and back crawl 15 yd. Swim under water 5 yd. Prerequisite: Children must have completed Learn-to-Swim Lessons: Level 3 or have equivalent skills. Upon completion of Level 4, children should register for Swim Club if schedule is available.

    Level 1 (ages 5 and up) - Introduction to Aquatic Skills Participants, ages 5 and up, become comfortable in the water learning basic skills. Skills performed with assistance include: Enter and exit the water safely Submerge and explore underwater Glide on front and back Float on back Explore treading Roll over: front to back/back to front Swim on front and back, 5 yd. Exit Skills: Enter unassisted, move 5 yd., bob 4 times and exit the water Front glide 2 yd., roll to back and float 5 sec., recover to vertical Registration tip: Upon completion of required skills, register for Learn-to-Swim Lessons: Level 2.

    Level 3 - Stroke Development Participants, ages 5 and up, achieve basic swimming competency learning front crawl and elementary backstroke. Skills include: Jump into deep water Kneeling dive Survival float, back float and tread water Breaststroke kick, dolphin kick, scissors kick, 25 yd. each Front crawl and elementary backstroke, 15 yd. each Exit Skills: Jump into deep water, tread water or float for one minute, rotate one full turn and swim front crawl or elementary backstroke 25 yd. Swim front crawl, 15 yd. and elementary backstroke 15 yd. Prerequisite: Children must have completed Learn-to-Swim Lessons: Level 2 or have equivalent skills. Registration tip: Upon completion of required skills, register for Learn-to-Swim Lessons: Level 4.

    Parent Tot (Ages 12-36 months with parent/guardian) Learn to enjoy the water safely with your child for ages 12 to 36 months accompanied by a parent or guardian in the water. Registration tip: Children, at the age of 3, may register for Preschool 1 to be in a class without a parent or Preschool 1 with parent if the parent or guardian would like to accompany the child in the class. Preschool 1 with Parent Preschoolers in the Parent Child class learn skills with the comfort of a parent or guardian in the water.     DAY 1 - Tuesday, July 15, 2025 Leave early from Inver Grove Heights, South St. Paul and Thompson Park and have lunch (included) before the Apostle Island Cruise in Bayfield. The Apostle Islands “Grand Tour” Cruise takes you on a narrated, informative 55-mile scenic cruise. Throughout this memorable cruise, you’ll pass extraordinary natural scenery, beautiful historic Raspberry Lighthouse and Devils Island Lighthouse. See standing rocks, extensive sea caves, and marine wildlife. Learn the rich history of centuries of human interaction with Wisconsin’s “Crown Jewels” on majestic Lake Superior. After the cruise, check into the Legendary Waters Resort. The resort is built on the shores of Lake Superior with an indoor swimming pool and fitness center. It is located adjacent to the casino. Take the Madeline Island Ferry from Bayfield to the picturesque town of LaPointe on Madeline Island. It is the largest of the Apostle Islands. Meet a local guide for a tour of the island. Hear about The Apostle Islands and how they were named for the twelve apostles, but indeed number twenty-two, ranging in size from three acres to fourteen thousand acres. Have lunch (included) at the Pub Restaurant, and visit the Madeline Island Historical Museum. Return to Bayfield and visit the Bayfield Winery for a tasting. The Bayfield Winery began fermenting their first batch of wine in the fall of 1995. There are a dozen varieties of wines from very dry to very sweet all from different varieties of apples, pears and fruits. Tonight dinner (included) is at Legendary Waters Resort.     Register here to board the bus at Thompson Park Activity Center: Visit beautiful Bayfield, Wisconsin and the Apostle Islands! Important information for this overnight trip: Minimum payment of $200 per person required to make a reservation. Final & full payment due Thurs, May 22, 2025: after this date your fee is non-refundable. Spots are not held for participants without payment. Board the bus where you registered. Boarding and drop-off only at 3 locations listed. Plan to be dropped off and picked up. Thompson Park does not allow for overnight parking. Arrive 15 minutes before the scheduled trip departure for check-in. A $10 service fee will be charged if you cancel your trip registration anytime before May 22.
