Learning the game of chess promotes imagination, creativity, develops memory, teaches independence, inspires self-motivation, and develops a logical way of thinking. Students of all levels are welcome. Yes, even if your student does not know how to play, we will teach them! Each session is filled with different material, and all learning is done with encouragement and fun on an individual personal level! All in-class equipment is provided. School District 197 Youth Enrichment Community Education is pleased to partner with Advantage Educational Programs. For the past 26 years, Advantage Educational Programs benefited thousands of students in Minnesota by preparing them for the college entrance exams. They offer ACT Preparatory Courses in more than forty high schools in Minneapolis/St. Paul and the surrounding area. Online ACT Preparatory Course This course is an excellent alternative for any student unable to attend in-school classes or for a student preferring to prepare for the ACT exam on their own, and study at their desired pace. The fee for this course is $80, and you may repeat the course at no charge until you graduate from high school. The online course will allow students to log-in for the course and proceed at their own pace. The course will be using Google Classroom to present the online course and it will be equivalent to the 12 hour classroom time. The course will use instructors' videos, voice-overs, illustrations, and slides that guide you through all of the testing areas of the ACT. You will also be able to communicate with the instructor when you have questions or concerns. **If you are on free/reduced lunch please contact us for a scholarship. **You will need a gmail account to access the google classroom. Your student's isd197.org account that is managed by google will not work--ISD197 blocks access to google classrooms outside the 197 domain. Once students are enrolled, they are sent an access code for their class via email, as well as directions on how to begin the simple process of starting their class. Students have the flexibility of working on classwork at their own pace around their own specific schedule. Make a Difference! School District 197 Community Education Youth Enrichment offers classes to all our district youth after-school, non-school days and weekends. We have classes for everyone--Drama Lab, STEM, Aquatics, Driver's Ed, ACT Prep, Arts and Craft, Chess Clubs and more! Please consider making a tax-deductible donation today! All money will go directly to support youth who otherwise might not be able to participate in Community Education programs because of financial challenges. Any amount is appreciated and every donation will help students across School District 197 have an opportunity to explore an interest or take swimming lessons!

**Orders are sent in to GRASP on Thursday May 1st. No late registrations will be taken. **Please make sure your address/email/phone number in your Tridistrict account are all up to date in order to receive correspondence from GRASP. GRASP is a nine-week correspondence program which helps students maintain reading and math skills while they are on summer vacation. It should take you and your child approximately one hour per week for nine weeks to complete each weekly lesson. We suggest parents order the grade level just completed. If there are extenuating circumstances, order the level that is appropriate for your child. Prices include curriculum packet, completion awards and scoring service. GRASP has 9 lessons to be submitted during the summer—one per week. Each lesson reinforces the basic skills typically found in most curricula at that particular grade level. GRASP staff score the lesson and return it to the student with comments. Please select the correct GRASP Section: You can order 1 subject for your student for $38.00, either math or reading. Upon registering you will fill out a questionnaire on your students school, grade and select either the math or reading booklet. If you select the section for both subjects the cost is $58.00, you will fill out a questionnaire for the grade level preferred for each subject. You can choose different grade levels for reading and math. Books will be delivered to your child's school and handed out by their homeroom teacher in late May/early June.

ROCC--Residents of Color Collective is offering their program ROCC Climbers for BIPOC Youth at Heritage. **There is no charge to register but please sign up so ROCC is able to plan for activities. The ROCC Climbers program is a transformative leadership initiative designed specifically for BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) youth. The program aims to nurture young leaders by providing them with the skills, knowledge, and experiences necessary to thrive and make a positive impact in their communities. Age Group Target Grades: 5-8 Program Components Leadership Development Workshops and Seminars: Focus on leadership skills, public speaking, and community organizing. Mentorship: Pairing youth with community leaders and professionals for guidance and support. Cultural Education Swahili Lessons: Basic language lessons to connect youth with African heritage and foster cultural pride. Cultural Exchange: Activities that promote understanding and appreciation of diverse cultures. Creative Expression Writing Workshops: Encouraging self-expression through writing, helping youth develop their unique voices and narratives. Art Projects: Opportunities for youth to explore various forms of art and creativity. Financial Literacy Budgeting and Saving: Practical lessons on money management, including budgeting, saving, and making informed financial decisions. Calling all future engineers! It’s time to develop your critical thinking, problem solving and collaboration skills through engineering disciplines. The Engineering For Kids Jr Engineering/STEM Club brings fun, hands-on lessons every week to introduce engineering concepts at a young age. For each lesson, students focus on developing 21st Century skills such as problem solving, critical thinking and teamwork. These life skills give students the confidence to approach challenges in their lives and realize that they can succeed in almost anything! Session 2 Lessons--this is a 6 week class: Order may vary: Electrical Engineering: Light Up Bug Students learn about simple circuits to create their own light up bug. Industrial Engineering Levers: Bug Catcher Students are introduced to the lever and its properties and build their own bug catcher. Marine Engineering: Does Your Boat Float Students explore the concepts of floating and sinking and design a basic boat to hold weight without sinking. Civil Engineering: Goldilocks' Bed Students learn about and apply the concept of load distribution to construct a bed that can carry a specified weight. Chemical Engineering: Fluffy Slime Students learn about the properties of slime and make their own fluffy slime. Mechanical Engineering: Ferris Wheel Students learn about force, gravity & friction by creating their own simple ferris wheel.
